Preventative Care

Dental care is vital at any age, but it’s especially crucial for children as they grow and develop. Here at Children’s Landing, we offer comprehensive dental care for infants and children of all ages.

Our preventative care services include cleanings and exams, fluoride treatments, dental sealants, and more. We also offer a wide range of restorative services such as fillings, crowns, pulpotomies, and frenectomies. And if your child ever has a dental emergency, we’re here to help with that too.

No matter what your child’s dental needs are, we’re here to help. Schedule a visit at our West Jordan, UT office to get started.

Preventative Services

Dental care starts at home with proper brushing and flossing techniques, but it’s also important to visit the dentist regularly. Here at Children’s Landing, we offer a variety of preventative services to help your child maintain a healthy smile.

Cleanings & Exams

We recommend that all children have regular cleanings and exams starting at around age one. These appointments give us a chance to clean your child’s teeth and check for any problems. We’ll also work with you to develop a good at-home dental care routine.

Baby Bottle Tooth Decay

If your child is still using a bottle, it’s important to be careful of baby bottle tooth decay. This condition can occur when sweetened drinks or breast milk pool around the teeth and gums, causing decay. To prevent this, avoid putting your child to bed with a bottle and brush their teeth after they eat or drink anything sugary.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a mineral that helps prevent tooth decay by making the teeth more resistant to acid attacks. We will determine if fluoride treatment is necessary at the time of the exam.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are thin, plastic coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. They help protect the teeth from decay and are most often used on children. We recommend that children get sealants on their molars as soon as they come in (6-12 years old).

If your child has a cavity,  we will recommend a filling. This is a common procedure that involves removing the decay and then filling the space with a tooth-colored material.

A crown is a type of dental restoration that covers the entire tooth. They are most often used to restore teeth that are broken, have large cavities, or are misshapen.

A pulpotomy is a type of dental procedure that is used to save a tooth that has been damaged by decay. The procedure involves removing the decayed portion of the tooth and then placing a medicated dressing over the remaining pulp. This helps to relieve pain and prevent further damage.

A frenectomy is a surgical procedure that is used to release or remove the frenulum. The frenulum is a small piece of tissue that connects the lip or tongue to the gums. This procedure is often performed on children who have a tongue-tie or lip-tie.

Emergency Care

Dental emergencies can happen anytime and often occur when you least expect them. Here at Children’s Landing, we offer emergency dental care for children of all ages. We understand that these situations can be scary, so we’ll do everything we can to make your child feel comfortable.

Preventative Care at Home

Dental hygiene starts at home with proper brushing and flossing techniques. In addition to regular dental visits,  you can help your child maintain a healthy smile by:

  • Brushing twice a day.
  • Flossing once a day.
  • Eating a balanced diet and limiting sugary snacks and drinks.
  • Use a child-sized toothbrush with soft bristles and replace it every 3-4 months or sooner if it becomes frayed.

If you have any questions about dental care for your child,  please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re here to help in any way we can!
